What Kind of Supplies Do I Need When the Baby Gets Home?

Definitely, you have heard the same cliché line that once you become a parent, your life will change forever. There are tons of things to learn and prepare before the baby arrives. One of the steps that would-be parents should bear in mind is the kind of supplies they need to prepare when the baby gets home. Buying in advance is going to be helpful. This will cut down the amount of stress you and the mother will experience when the baby arrives home from the hospital.

Here are some 10 basic essentials you actually need:

  • Clothing- Most parents prefer to dress their babies in onesies because they’re easy to put on and take off. Make sure you have a lot of onesies (a mix of long-sleeves and 4 short-sleeves). Also, prepare some sleepers, pants, and cardigans. It’s also a good idea to prepare some warm clothes for winter such as snowsuits, jackets, snug-fitting hats, mittens, warm boots, socks, and heavier blankets. These items help your baby stay warm during winter.
  • Diapering- You need to prepare around 4 dozen of cloth diapers or 2 packs of disposable diaper for the first week. It's better to prepare only a few disposable diapers in case your baby is large. Moreover, you need to buy baby ointment for diaper rash.
  • Blankets and Burp Cloths- You need to prepare, burp clothes since babies can get so messy. Moreover, buy some receiving blankets and swaddling blankets. The receiving blankets are multi-purpose that can be used as burp cloths while the swaddling blankets are used for swaddling to give the baby a safe and good night sleep. Baby Wipes- Baby wipes are a basic essential of a newborn. They are used to clean the baby’s skin when they make a mess or when they poop and pee. Baby Wipes- Baby wipes are a basic essential of a newborn. • Mosquito Net- This is used to protect your baby from mosquito bites, especially at night.

  • Soft Carrier- When you can put down your baby while doing something, then this is what you need. You can get this in different styles such as front-back convertible or sling wrap.
  • Stroller- You need this if you want to take your baby outside your house without having to carry him or her the entire time that you're outside.
  • Crib- This is basically an infant bed. Make sure to include crib mattresses, blankets, and beddings. Select one that has a Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) safety certification. Choose one that is firm because the soft ones could suffocate the baby. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), it is advisable to not let the child sleep with a pillow, soft blankets, and bumpers until the baby turns 2 because these can increase the risk of SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
  • Bath Items- Buy a plastic tub for baby bath and some cotton balls that can be used for wiping each of your baby’s eyes, soap and shampoo with no tear-formulas, and towels for drying.
  • Medicine and other necessities- It's always better to be prepared, especially if you're a first-time father. Hence, prepare some medicines in case the baby gets sick. Some of the essentials are digital thermometer, antibacterial cream, nasal bulb, and nasal drops. Also, buy nail clippers, small bandages, mist humidifier, and diaper cream.
